The Journal of Retailing Announces Incoming Editorial Team

The Journal of Retailing is pleased to announce its incoming editorial team. They are:

Prof. Els Breugelmans, Full Professor in Marketing at the Faculty of Economics and Business at KU Leuven (Belgium)

Prof. David Hardesty, Carol Martin Gatton Chair in Marketing and University Research Professor at the Gatton College of Business and Economics at the University of Kentucky

Prof. Anne Roggeveen, Charles Clarke Reynolds Professor of Retailing and Marketing at Babson College

We are delighted to welcome this international team of three distinguished scholars who are well-known for their research and their contributions to the Journal of Retailing. Last year, JR had over 650 submissions, and the trajectory this year is for well over 700, evidence of JR鈥檚 reputation and testament to the hard work of JR鈥檚 current and past editors, reviewers, and authors. The Journal of Retailing continues to be one of the top journals in the field of Marketing, with an impact factor among the highest of all Marketing journals.

Thanks so much to Katrijn Gielens, Professor of Marketing at Tilburg University, who since 2022 has been the editor of the Journal of Retailing. The journal has flourished under her guidance, and we are very grateful to her and extend our best wishes as she transitions to become a co-Editor of the Journal of Marketing Research.

This new Journal of Retailing editorial team will begin processing manuscripts on June 15, 2026 (including new submissions and submissions that have received one round of reviews). The current editor will handle manuscripts that have received two or more rounds of reviews until October 1, 2026.听 After that the new editors will assume responsibility for all manuscripts.

Yiyi Li and Ying Xie offer a Framework for Image Analytics in Marketing

In the latest issue of , , authors (UT Arlington) and (UT Dallas) offer a framework for incorporating visual data into analysis. Because images do not come with predefined variables, researchers and managers must decide which aspects of visual content matter and how to extract those variables from unstructured images in a reliable and scalable way. Li and Xie distinguish between low-level features (derived directly from pixel values, e.g., color, brightness, composition), mid-level features (what is present in the image, e.g., people, logos), and high-level features (how images are interpreted or evaluated, e.g., emotion, aesthetics). 听provides a structured framework to choose among these levels based on the business outcome of interest, choose a measurement approach, and validate the outputs, synthesizing recent research from JMR and other journals and providing examples.

Announcement: ISR launches the IS鈥揗arketing interface initiative

Information Systems Research (ISR), a leading INFORMS journal in information systems, is launching a new editorial initiative focused on the IS鈥揗arketing interface.

ISR welcomes submissions that make integrated contributions to both information systems and marketing by placing the digital system at the center of the research question and explanation. Suitable papers focus on digital systems as they operate in practice, for example, tracking and logging of user actions; recognizing the same customer across devices, browsers, and sessions; data storage, access, and governance inside the firm; and algorithmic policies that determine what users see and what they receive, including search ranking, recommendations, and the allocation or pacing of ads, leads, inventory, or service capacity. This initiative also includes work on platform rules and incentives, constraints created by privacy policies and regulation, and AI-enabled workflows used by employees and customers, including settings with human review and oversight.

These system features should be linked to marketing-relevant behaviors and outcomes such as customer experience and journeys, targeting and personalization, pricing and promotion effectiveness, marketplace competition, measurement and attribution, and ultimately firm strategy and performance. For example, customer recognition across devices can change targeting accuracy, frequency control, and cross-channel attribution. Better recognition can reduce wasted impressions or repeated outreach to the same person, shift budget toward customers and channels that truly drive incremental conversions, and improve the return per marketing dollar spent.

In short, strong IS鈥揗arketing interface submissions do not treat the platform, algorithm, or data pipeline as a black box. They identify the system mechanisms at work and connect those mechanisms to observable customer behavior and market outcomes, delivering insights that speak credibly to both IS and marketing audiences.

Call for Applications and Nominations: Editor(s)-in-Chief, Marketing Letters

Marketing Letters invites applications and nominations for the next Editor(s)-in-Chief. The journal seeks three to four Editor(s)-in-Chief to serve a three-year term beginning January 1, 2027. Marketing Letters is published by Springer.

The search is being conducted by the current co-editors:

  • Ashlee Humphreys
  • Kanishka Misra
  • Jeff Parker

We welcome submissions from full and associate professors within Marketing academia.

Application and Nomination Formats

Candidates may be considered in one of two formats:

  • As an individual (lone/sole applicant or nominee), or
  • As a proposed editorial team

Both formats are welcome.

If individual (lone/sole) applicants are selected, the current editors will assemble the full editorial team (for a total of three to four Editor(s)-in-Chief).

If a team is applying or being nominated, the submission should identify the proposed team members.

Self-Nominations and Other Nominations

  • Self-nominations are preferred.
  • Nominations of others are also accepted, but only with prior consent from the nominee.
  • For team nominations, the nomination must include a statement indicating that all nominated individuals have confirmed their willingness to serve in this role.

Application Materials (Self-Nominations / Applications)

Applicants should submit:

  • A CV (or CVs for team submissions)
  • A letter of interest (including why they are interested in the role)
  • A short vision statement for the journal
  • A proposed editorial team (optional; lone/sole applications are welcome and do not require this component)

There are no page or word limits for submitted materials.

Nomination Materials (Nominating Others)

Nominations of others should include:

  • A brief rationale for the nomination
  • Contact information for the nominee (or nominees)

As noted above, nominations must be made with prior consent, and team nominations must confirm that all named individuals are willing to serve.

Journal of Research in Interactive Marketing Calls for Associate Editor

Due to the significant grow of submissions, Journal of Research in Interactive Marketing (JRIM) is accepting applications for a few new openings of associate editor positions.听 In terms of the 2025 WOB Journal Citation Report, JRIM achieves an impact factor of 11.6, ranked by Web of Science as 7th of 316 in the business category. Applicants should send a letter of application which includes their brief CV, and a description of their qualifications to Professor Cheng Lu Wang, editor-in-chief, at cwang@newhaven.edu.

Qualifications: The candidates should have an excellent academic background at the rank of Associate Professor or above, with a strong publication record at top-tier marketing journals.
