Professor Emeritus David Jerome Curry, 81, passed away at home on April 26th, 2026, after a two-year battle with ALS. He will be sorely missed by his colleagues throughout the world, his many students, as well his friends and family with whom he shared his sharp mind, laughter, kindness, and support.
Dave earned his BS degree in 1967 and his MBA in 1968 from the University of Colorado Boulder where he was on the ski team: thus, beginning his lifelong passion for the sport. He continued his education with a Ph.D. in Marketing and minors in Mathematical Psychology and Psychometrics from the University of California Berkeley in 1973. His teaching career, first at the University of Iowa (1973-1990) followed by the University of Cincinnati (1990-2024) spanned over five decades. As a dedicated faculty member, Dave chaired and served on countless academic and dissertation committees and was known for his fairness, reflection, and one last thought. Dave authored several books including a marketing research textbook as well as poetry and non-fiction. Daves most recent book, partially written through voice dictation while first diagnosed with ALS, applied his knowledge of statistics to horse racing. He was a true leader in the field and those of us who were fortunate to know Dave consider it a privilege and honor to have had the opportunity to work with him. Dave treated everyone, regardless of their status, with respect, dignity, and kindness, and his spirit and legacy will never be forgotten.
