GLOBAL SCHOOL IN EMPIRICAL RESEARCH METHODS (GSERM)

First Edition at ESADE in Barcelona

29 June – 3 July 2026 | ESADE Pedralbes Campus

Are you looking to sharpen your methodological toolkit this summer? The Global School in Empirical Research Methods (GSERM) is expanding to Barcelona. In summer 2026, GSERM will host its inaugural Barcelona edition in partnership with ESADE Business School — one of Europe’s top business schools.

Whether you are a PhD student developing your dissertation research design, a postdoc refining advanced analytical skills, or a faculty member exploring new methods, GSERM Barcelona offers a unique opportunity to learn from world-class instructors in a vibrant academic setting.

Courses

Participants choose one intensive course during the week (24 contact hours, 4 ECTS). All courses are taught in English. Three courses are offered in Barcelona:

  1. Voice Analytics for Behavioral Scientists: From Acoustic Features to Conversational AI Agents — Prof. Christian Hildebrand, University of St.Gallen

Master the complete pipeline from audio processing and feature extraction to developing conversational AI agents for primary data collection. Learn to extract acoustic features that reveal psychological states, transcribe and analyze natural language data, and design voice-based AI systems for research.

  1. Conducting Research with GenAI: From Ideation to Publication — Prof. Travis Oh, Yeshiva University

Learn to use generative AI as a research partner across the full pipeline, from theory building and literature discovery to study design, data collection, analysis, and crafting a publication-ready research narrative. Work in teams to develop a journal-ready research program in just one week.

  1. Experimental Methodology to Study Human-Technology Interactions — Prof. Ana Valenzuela, ESADE Business School and Baruch College, CUNY

Design and execute experimental research on consumer-technology interactions. Covers experimental designs, measurement, questionnaire design, data analysis, and research ethics, with thematic focus on digital consumer behavior, AI, chatbots, and robots.
