Instats is excited to offer a 4-day seminar, , livestreaming September 25 – October 3 and led by Kirstie Ken English from the School of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Glasgow. Drawing on cutting-edge mixed-method research, this course equips you to design survey questions that capture sex, gender and sexuality in ways that are inclusive, transparent and reflexive. Across four half-day sessions, you’ll engage with queer and feminist critiques of quantification, unpack the UK census debates on LGBTI+ representation, weigh the risks and benefits of data visibility, and apply the TEMPS standards to craft your own survey items. By the end, you’ll understand why data matters, how power shapes categorisation, and how to produce high-quality, ethically sound survey data that better serves diverse communities.
