DocSIG is excited to release the 2024–25 Who Went Where Report, the annual snapshot of the North American marketing academic job market.

This year’s survey and report reflect important updates based on feedback from students and faculty. We aligned journal classifications with tenure requirements, added methodology-specific salary information, restricted the scope to North America, and strengthened anonymity by removing geographic identifiers and social comparison questions.

The report is based on self-reported data, providing valuable transparency into the candidate experience while not fully capturing the entire market.

Highlights from this year’s results include:

  • Average applications: 70 | interviews: 13 | offers: 2
  • 70% of offers accepted between October and December 2024
  • 56% of accepted positions in Consumer Behavior, 16% in Strategy, 26% in Modeling
  • 9 accepted papers at FT50 journals (JM, JMR, JCR, JCP, JAMS, MS)
  • Median 9-month salary: 170,000 USD | total with summer support: 199,300 USD

This year’s effort was led by Julia van de Sandt in her role as DocSIG Chair, who oversaw the survey overhaul and report production. We are grateful to RezaÌý²¹²Ô»å Gang for their key role in collecting and analyzing the data.

As DocSIG leadership transitions, we remain committed to breaking down information barriers and supporting doctoral students in navigating the job market.

We thank all new 2025 AP’s who participated and wish the very best to those entering the market this year and in the future.
