Instats is excited to offer a 4-day seminar, , running Jul 8 – 11 and led by Dr Marina Gorzig from the Institute for Statistical and Data Science. As questions of equity and discrimination increasingly shape inquiry across the social sciences, health sciences, and digital humanities, this seminar equips researchers with the methodological and statistical expertise needed to produce rigorous, policy-relevant work. Over four interactive sessions, Dr Gorzig blends theoretical discussion with hands-on applications in Stata, demonstrating how to design studies with community input, choose appropriate disparity metrics, distinguish inequity from discrimination, and apply intersectional frameworks that capture the complexity of real-world disadvantage. Participants will also learn strategies for securing equity-focused funding, running policy simulations and counterfactual analyses, crafting compelling public-facing outputs such as policy briefs and infographics, and integrating equity considerations into teaching and service-learning initiatives. Whether you are a PhD student seeking to strengthen your dissertation or an established scholar aiming to influence policymaking, this seminar will leave you with a toolkit for producing actionable, data-driven insights that can drive systemic change.
