The Summer Edition 2025 of the SIMA-SIM-BAM School of Research Methods is approaching!

This year the summer school will be focused on the depth interview and will take place from July 2 to 4 in the marvelous setting of the Florence countryside at the Hotel Il Mulino di Firenze. The depth interview is a fundamental research tool extensively used across social sciences to capture deep insights and develop thorough, situated understanding of investigated phenomena. This summer school will offer a deep dive into the phenomenology of depth interviewing. A three-day full immersion into the lived experience of getting prepared for, conducting, analysing, interpreting, following up and theorizing from depth interviews.

A faculty of 5 renowned, international scholars who are experts in depth interviewing will take participants into a journey at the heart of depth interviews, tackling topics such as ontological and epistemological assumptions, how to recruit and build trust with participants, how to be an active listener and conduct an effective interview, how to code, analyse and interpret interview data, how to use and triangulate interview data for theory building, how to manage ethics and follow up with interviewees, how AI is challenging depth interviewing. The titles of the lectures and the lecturers follow:

  • An overview of depth interview as a data collection method (Simone Guercini)
  • The phenomenology of depth interviewing (Rebecca Scott)
  • Analysis, interpretation and ethical management of depth interviews (Rachel Ashman)
  • Using depth interviews in business research (Emma MacDonald)
  • Conducting interviews in business contexts: from theory to practice (Andrea Runfola)

Are you ready to join us?! The summer school is open to 30 scholars (e.g., PhD students, post-docs, junior researchers).

Registration closes on June 27, with an early bird fee of 550 euro (double room) for those registering no later than June 2.

Don’t miss this opportunity! We look forward to welcoming you in Florence!
