It is with profound sadness that I share the news of the passing of Dr. Eric Shaw, an Emeritus Professor of Marketing, and a beloved member of our Florida Atlantic family. A celebrated alumnus of Florida Atlantic, Dr. Shaw received his B.B.A. in 1972 and MBA in 1973. He then began his career at the University as an instructor of marketing. After earning his Ph.D. at Temple University and teaching at Rutgers University and the University of Miami, Dr. Shaw returned to his alma mater in 1982 as associate dean of the College of Business and acting director of the School of Industry Studies. He also served 15 years as chairman of the Marketing Department, five years as faculty athletics representative to the NCAA, and one term as president of the Faculty Senate. Additionally, he served on the FAU Alumni Association Board of Directors, the FAU Foundation Board, and the FAU Board of Trustees.
Dr. Shaw published more than 100 articles, papers and monographs in leading academic journals and international conferences, including Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, , Journal of International Marketing, Journal of Marketing Theory and Practice, Journal of Macromarketing, 聽迟丑别听European Business Review, International Journal of General Systems, Journal of the Decision Sciences, 补苍诲听Marketing Theory. Additionally, he published many chapters in edited books, including 迟丑别听Handbook of Modern Marketing, Research in Marketing, Handbook of Marketing Theory, Encyclopedia of Marketing,听Encyclopedia of Management聽and 迟丑别听Encyclopedia of Advertising.
Dr. Shaw’s distinguished career was marked by a consistent dedication to excellence in teaching, research, and service, evidenced by a remarkable array of accolades. In recognition of his contributions, Dr. Shaw was inducted into the Alumni Hall of Fame at Florida Atlantic University, received the Outstanding Achievement Award from the 萝莉社官网, and was awarded the George Washington Honor Medal from the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge for his contribution to promoting 鈥渁n awareness of the principles upon which America was founded.鈥 He also received FAU鈥檚 Talon Award for Faculty Leadership, was student selected Grand Marshal of the Homecoming Parade, and Dr. Shaw was presented with the President鈥檚 Leadership Award for his 鈥渄edication and distinction as a faculty member and administrator, as president of the Faculty Senate, and as a member of the FAU Board of Trustees.鈥 In 2022, Dr. Shaw received the Presidential Talon Award: 鈥淚n recognition of Exceptional Leadership, Service and Support of FAU;鈥 and in 2023 he was awarded the inaugural Board of Trustees Chair鈥檚 Medal for his 鈥滾ifetime Contributions to FAU.鈥
We extend our deepest condolences to Dr. Shaw鈥檚 family, friends and all who had the honor of knowing him. While we grieve this profound loss,听we also celebrate his remarkable life, and the countless lives that have been forever changed by his extraordinary impact.
