Dear 蹤獲扦夥厙 Academic Community,

We are thrilled to introduce the first newsletter from the 蹤獲扦夥厙 Academic Council! Our mission is to advocate for the academic membership and provide stewardship of Academic Special Interest Groups (SIGs), 蹤獲扦夥厙s flagship academic journals, the 蹤獲扦夥厙 – Sheth Doctoral Consortium, Winter and Summer 蹤獲扦夥厙 Conferences, and related initiatives. We strive to reflect the diversity of scholarly interests across managerial, behavioral, modeling, and public policy perspectives, all while keeping a focus on strategic marketing implications.

Our goal with this newsletter is to update you on the work of the Academic Council and keep you informed about initiatives aligned with 蹤獲扦夥厙s mission: to be the most relevant force and voice shaping marketing around the world and an essential community for marketers.

What Does the Academic Council Do?

The Academic Council is a 12-member council that represents the diversity of scholarly interests. In support of 蹤獲扦夥厙s mission, the 蹤獲扦夥厙 Academic Council advocates for the 蹤獲扦夥厙 academic membership and provides stewardship of Academic Special Interest Groups (SIGs), events, and related initiatives.

What does that mean in practical terms? It may surprise you to learn that the following are under the Academic Councils purview:

  • The Council is divided into workgroups to discuss issues that affect the academic community (this years issues are Expanding 蹤獲扦夥厙s Global Reach, Prioritizing Inclusion and Belonging, and Developing the Marketing Profession); these workgroups collect data and engage in initiatives to further their goals.
  • The Members of the Council support the official 蹤獲扦夥厙 activities at the Summer and Winter Academic Conferences.
  • The Council evaluates and approves pop-up SIG proposals as well as proposals for pop-up SIGs to become permanent SIGs.
  • The Executive Committee (consisting of the President-Elect-Designate, President-Elect, President, and Past President) collaborates with the 蹤獲扦夥厙 leadership to evaluate proposals for the 蹤獲扦夥厙-Sheth Doctoral Consortium host, reviews nominations for future academic council members, recommends chairs for the Winter 蹤獲扦夥厙 and Summer 蹤獲扦夥厙 conferences, and serves on various 蹤獲扦夥厙 academic award and 蹤獲扦夥厙 journal editor search committees.
  • The President attends the 蹤獲扦夥厙 annual board meeting to present the Academic Councils strategic goals and engages in cross-community collaboration with 蹤獲扦夥厙s other communities Council Presidents (Undergraduate Collegiate and Professional).

Updates from the Academic Council

  1. Sharing Survey Highlights on Key Priorities for Academic Community
The Academic Council recently conducted a survey to better understand the preferences and experiences of our academic community. Many of the updates and initiatives we are implementing are directly informed by the valuable insights gathered from this survey. Key highlights include:

    1. Preferences for global conferences
    2. A sense of belonging within the academic community
    3. The doctoral student job market experience
[Click to explore the survey highlights and infographic].
  2. Launching 蹤獲扦夥厙-Sheth Foundation Early Career Consortium Winter 蹤獲扦夥厙 2025 in Phoenix, Arizona
In partnership with the Sheth Foundation, we launched the 蹤獲扦夥厙 – Sheth Foundation Early Career Consortium at the Winter 蹤獲扦夥厙 Conference in Phoenix, Arizona. This initiative is designed to support early-career scholars by offering tailored resources, networking opportunities, and mentorship, fostering their growth and success in the marketing academic community.
  3. Expanding 蹤獲扦夥厙s Global Reach Winter 蹤獲扦夥厙 2026 in Madrid
Aligned with 蹤獲扦夥厙s strategic plan and the pillar of global embrace, we are proud to announce that the Winter 蹤獲扦夥厙 2026 will take place in Madridmarking the first time in 蹤獲扦夥厙s history that the conference will be hosted in a global location. As a pilot initiative, this represents an important step in exploring opportunities to expand 蹤獲扦夥厙s international presence. While the Winter 蹤獲扦夥厙 will not be global every year, this initiative allows us to assess the potential for future international engagements and deepen our connections with a broader global community.
  4. Strengthening Community ConnectionsFostering a greater sense of belonging within the academic community remains a key priority. In response to valuable survey insights, we have launched several affinity groups to provide spaces for members to connect around shared interests and experiences. Additionally, we introduced new opportunities for in-person engagement, including dedicated time for members to meet during the Summer 蹤獲扦夥厙 Conference. Another exciting initiative was community interplay, where academic and professional community members collaborated on an AI-focused session at the Summer 蹤獲扦夥厙 Conference, facilitating meaningful cross-sector dialogue. These efforts reflect our ongoing commitment to building a more connected and engaged academic community.
  5. Announcing Academic Interview Event Hosted by 蹤獲扦夥厙Are you hiring in the next job cycle? At the 蹤獲扦夥厙, we understand that the sunsetting of the Academic Placement eventformerly held at the 蹤獲扦夥厙 Summer Academic Conferencehas created uncertainty for students on the job market and hiring institutions alike. We also recognize the increasing costs universities face when flying out prospective candidates for those invaluable in-person interviews. With that in mind, we’re excited to introduce a new pilot program: the Academic Interview Event Hosted by 蹤獲扦夥厙, taking place at the 2025 蹤獲扦夥厙 Summer Academic Conference in Chicago. This new program gives you the opportunity to rent private offices and/or meeting rooms in hourly increments at the 蹤獲扦夥厙 Support Center (a short walk from this year’s conference venue) to meet with potential candidates for a first-round interview in person. While you focus on bringing in your hiring team and coordinating meetings with prospective candidates, 蹤獲扦夥厙 will provide coffee, snacks, free WiFi, and a beautiful view of Lake Michigan. Reduce the number of flyouts and make the most of your time by interviewing several candidates in the comfort of an 蹤獲扦夥厙 Support Center office! 6. Introducing Incoming Members of the 蹤獲扦夥厙 Academic Council
The Academic Council will be welcoming two new members starting July 1, 2025. We are thrilled to introduce Dr. Martin Mende, Professor of Marketing and PetSmart Distinguished Chair at Arizona State Universitys W. P. Carey School of Business, and Dr. Julian Saint Clair, Associate Professor of Marketing at Loyola Marymount Universitys College of Business Administration. Welcome Martin and Julian!
