Dear friends and colleagues,

“It is with deep sadness that I share tragic news about our friend and colleague, Gerald Häubl, who is missing and presumed deceased following a climbing accident on Mount Aoraki (Cook) in New Zealand.” Vikas Mehrotra, Dean, School of Business – University of Alberta, Jan 10, 2025

You are invited to a Zoom Celebration of Life Ceremony in honour of Gerald. The details of the event are at the end of this message. The event will celebrate Gerald’s contributions to the field, his school, and his family – and  remember the good times we had with him. As Dean Vikas Mehrotra notes, “Over the course of his remarkable journey, Gerald was a renowned academic, a trusted advisor, and a friend to many. He was an exemplary mentor for an extensive network of doctoral students who themselves have gone on to do great work at all levels of academia and industry.”

Our department is heartbroken with the loss of our beloved colleague, mentor, and friend. We will be collecting email condolences and messages for the family. Please email celinema@ualberta.ca or share your thoughts here: .

If you are a collaborator on an on-going research project with Gerald, and you have queries about continuing the work and coordinating with doctoral students, or if you have been in touch with Gerald about other matters that need addressing, please be in touch with Sarah Moore (sarah.g.moore@ualberta.ca) or me (paul.messinger@ualberta.ca).

With wishes for a new year with health, happiness, and peace,

Paul
