Does public mistrust in science impact consumer behavior data collection or analysis? Rowan El-Bialy invites consumer researchers to complete  ahead of a panel discussion titled “Collecting Qualitative Consumer Research in a Post-Trust Era” at the 2024 CCT Conference in San Diego.

Prior literature shows growing social mistrust towards academics and scientists. Consumers and other market actors are increasingly suspicious of academic research, particularly qualitative research which requires participant buy-in and investment (time, commitment). This panel discussion will explore the consequences of social mistrust towards science on conducting consumer research, including participant recruitment, data collection, and analysis.

We would be very grateful if consumer researchers, especially those who use qualitative methods, would complete this to submit questions for the panelists and help us grasp the scope of the issue.
