Journal of Product Innovation Management

Announcement of Search for Editor(s)-In-Chief

The Product Development and Management Association (PDMA) is seeking applications for the next Editor-in-Chief (EIC) or team of EICs of the Journal of Product Innovation Management (JPIM), the leading journal in the innovation and new product development domain, to start in the position on January 1, 2025, for a three-year term (2025 – 2027). Currently, JPIM is published six times per year and receives approximately 600-700 submissions per year.

Interested candidates for EIC should familiarize themselves with JPIM () and PDMA () before considering applying. Interested individuals should prepare and submit a statement describing their vision for continuing the growth and development of the journal, along with their qualifications for the position, evidence of administrative capability, an academic vita, and a statement indicating support from the employing institution. Selection of the EIC will be made by PDMA’s Publications Committee in spring.  Finalists will be asked to participate in an interview with the Committee. All applications should be submitted before February 29, 2024, to Professor Ludwig Bstieler, Chair of the Publications Committee for the PDMA (; (+1) 603-862-3306).

Duties of the EIC include appointing and managing a diverse editorial team and all editorial aspects of the journal, working with PDMA and John Wiley & Sons Publishing to assure support from both organizations, and acting as liaison with other organizations to promote the journal and with prospective authors to assure a stream of high-quality manuscripts. The EIC provides the contents of issues six times per year on a fixed schedule to John Wiley & Sons Publishing. A sizeable budget is available to defray travel and other direct expenses incurred to support journal operations, including administrative support.

The Editor(s) in Chief must be a distinguished member of the innovation management community (or have dedication and enthusiasm for the journal’s subject area of new product development and innovation) and must be sensitive to the special requirements of publishing an international journal that welcomes contributions from authors with backgrounds across relevant disciplines, consistent with the various tasks and roles in effective NPD and innovation practices. Other desired qualifications include editorial experience, established and successful scholarly achievements, an understanding of the publication process, and more generally the ability to manage the journal effectively. A willingness and ability to travel to represent JPIM at conferences, workshops, and universities is expected.  If not a current member of PDMA, the EIC is expected to join the Association at the time of the appointment. As an ex officio member of PDMA’s Board of Directors, the EIC represents JPIM in its regular board meetings.

PDMA’s Publications Committee performs an annual review of the EICs performance. Subject to these reviews, the EIC is expected to serve a term of three years. This term is renewable once.
