2023 ISMS Doctoral Dissertation Award Competition

The INFORMS Society for Marketing Science (ISMS) is delighted to announce its 2023 ISMS Doctoral Dissertation Award competition. The competition, held annually, aims to recognize exceptional doctoral dissertation proposals that address important topics in marketing science.

Award Committee

The dissertation proposals will be reviewed and ranked by a committee of experts consisting of Professors Juanjuan Zhang (chair, MIT), Marnik Dekimpe (Tilburg and KU Leuven), Jacob Goldenberg (IDC), Krista Li (Indiana), and Xiao Liu (NYU). It is important to note that a committee member cannot be the dissertation advisor of a student in the competition and committee members will also recuse themselves from any decisions involving students from their university.

Application Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for the award application are as follows:

  • The candidate or his/her advisor/chair is a current member of ISMS.
  • The candidate is registered at an accredited university to receive a Ph.D. in business or marketing.
  • The candidates dissertation proposal has been approved by the candidate’s committee, school or university by September 30, 2023.
  • The candidate’s dissertation will not be completed on or before December 31, 2023.
  • The dissertation has not previously won the ISMS dissertation award.

Please note that each candidate can only submit their research proposal to one of the two ISMS awards (ISMS Doctoral Dissertation Award or ISMS Doctoral Early-Stage Research Grants) in any given year. However, a project that won or was submitted for an early-stage grant in one year may be submitted for the dissertation award competition in a subsequent year.

ISMS encourages applications from PhD students of all backgrounds, universities, and research traditions and actively encourages applications from PhD students from underrepresented minority groups in marketing academia. ISMS is committed to ensuring diversity, equity, and inclusion within our field.
