We are pleased to confirm that the eighth edition of the Colloquium on European Research in Retailing will take place on
22-23 of June 2023 in Portsmouth, United Kingdom
This colloquium will be dedicated to the Technology, People and Sustainability: Shaping a Better Retail Future.
Retail sectors around the globe are facing many seismic changes, and the most prominent ones appear to be related to technology, people and sustainability. Retail relies on digital interface and systems to conduct its front- and back-stage activities, including serving customers, as exemplified by the use of self-service checkouts in-store and chatbots online. Scholars argue that there is a subtle reversion to humanised service and experience to foster retail shoppers’ loyalty. These are depicted by the introduction of personal styling services by department stores (e.g. John Lewis) and the assembly and installation services by home furniture retailers (e.g., Ikea). Finally, we cannot ignore sustainability issues. How can retail combine those considerations warrants further consideration.
