Call for Papers

EVENT : 29th Recent Advances in Retailing and Consumer Science Conference

DATE   : July 24 – 27, 2023

VENUE : Marriott hotel, Lyon, France

It is our pleasure to post the call for papers for our next conference. We hope you are interested to participate. If you are unfamiliar with our conference, it intends to bring together scholars from various disciplines and countries interested in retailing and consumer services. In the past, the conference has attracted scholars from disciplines such as marketing, psychology, urban planning, transportation, management, geography etc. from more than 35 countries. Our focus is to strengthen the international network and provide an optimal setting (4 star hotel, interesting city, good food) for exchange of ideas, presentation of results, planning of new projects, inspiration of new ideas, opening up for the network for PhD and starting scholars, all organised with a personal touch. The conference therefore gives delegates an opportunity to present their completed projects but also work in progress. Networking and collaboration to enhance the quality of research in the field are more important than other criteria. You may also wish to consider organizing a special session that may be published in the Journal of Retailing and Consumer Services.

SUGGESTED TOPICS

Papers on any topic relevant to progress in retailing and consumer services (tourism, recreation, banking, health, aspects of transportation, etc.) are welcome. Topics of special interest include:

  • food retailing and marketing

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: OCTOBER 1, 2022

If you are interested, please complete the following procedure

    1. Complete delegate/abstract registration form on website. If you wish to submit multiple papers, please complete for every submitted paper
    2. Email the 1-page abstract, using the template to be found on the same website, to Soora Rasouli & Harry Timmermans, E-mail: conference@rarcs.org

Submitting an abstract implies that at least one of the authors will attend the conference, should the abstract be accepted. Realize that we need to reject presentations not because of their lack of quality but due to capacity restrictions. If you cannot guarantee attendance, please let us know as it allows us to manage this uncertainty in the best possible way. We try to avoid that we reject papers due to limited capacity, if they could have accepted after all because some accepted paper are withdrawn.

PUBLICATIONS: All abstracts will be included in a Book of Abstracts, made available in digital format. This book assists delegates in choosing between the sessions. In addition, we stimulate – but this is not a requirement – participants to submit full papers or a 6-8 pages extended abstract (a skeleton of a factual paper without an extensive literature review, an extensive motivation of operational decisions and the usual limitations and managerial implications section). The conference proceedings, made available in digital format, which include these papers and extended abstracts. To ensure maximum flexibility, we do not ask for any transfer of copyrights and will not submit the proceedings to any repository. Hence, authors should not encounter any problems when submitting subsequent (revised/updated) paper to journals for publication.

SPECIAL SESSIONS: You are invited to organize a special session. Proposals should include: (a) a short description of the proposed session; (b) a list of speakers, who committed to participate; (c) one-page abstracts of all papers. Special sessions require 6 presentations or multiples of these. We entertain you acting as guest editor for a special issue in the Journal of Retailing and Consumer Services, subject to positive external reviews and common quality standards. The special session can be used to give intense feedback on the papers and improve their quality.

PROGRAM: The conference will start with registration mid-afternoon July 24, followed by a welcome reception. Sessions will start on July 25 and continue until noon July 27. A conference dinner will be organised on July 26.

NOTIFICATION: We plan to notify delegates by November 15, 2022 at the latest about the outcome of the review process. Papers will be judged on the basis of potential contribution to the literature, fit to the conference and overall impression. Delegates are expected to arrange their registration and pay their conference fees before February 1, 2023 to guarantee accommodation/reduced room prices.

CONFERENCE PACKAGE: 1698 Euros (discount of 400 euros if paid before February 1, 2023). The package includes participation, documentation, proceedings, book of abstracts, three nights of deluxe accommodation in the Marriott hotel (arrival: July 24th – departure: July 27th, 2020), breakfast, tea and coffee breaks, welcome reception, two lunches, conference dinner, all taxes and service charges.
