Introducing the ÂÜÀòÉç¹ÙÍø Pop-Up SIG: Sustainable Marketing

The Sustainable Marketing Special Interest Group serves academics and practitioners who want to collaborate through ÂÜÀòÉç¹ÙÍø in order to advance research, teaching, and stakeholder partnerships related to sustainable marketing. The realities of rapid global warming, increasing plastic and other pollution, as well as lack of fair trade practices and fair labor practices within many supply chains, present serious challenges to economic, social, and environmental sustainability. Given its central role in the development, production, distribution, and post-consumption destination of consumer and business products, the marketing discipline in general and ÂÜÀòÉç¹ÙÍø members in particular are very well-positioned to develop innovative, cost-effective approaches that improve and safeguard the physical and social environments, both for today and for future generations. The Sustainable Marketing SIG will work with SIGs such as Marketing and Society and Consumer Behavior to bring together ÂÜÀòÉç¹ÙÍø members working with rapidly evolving concepts such as the triple bottom line, supply chain social responsibility, the circular economy, the three R’s (reduce, reuse, recycle), and many other sustainable marketing topics. Members of the Sustainability SIG will develop and distribute sustainable marketing knowledge in cooperation with ÂÜÀòÉç¹ÙÍø through research, curriculum development, and industry/organization partnerships. Members are encouraged to use the framework of the UN Sustainable Development Goals for interdisciplinary social innovation initiatives, and measurement of collaborative impact.

Founding organizers include leading marketing scholars Jag Sheth, Bob Dahlstrom, Dana Alden and Mark Peterson among others. Bob Dahlstrom and Dana Alden will serve as the Sustainable Marketing SIG’s founding Co-Chairs. Matt Lunde  will cover SIG events and programming at ÂÜÀòÉç¹ÙÍø meetings, and Tina Facca-Miess will lead communications efforts. ÂÜÀòÉç¹ÙÍø academic and student members can now add multiple special interest group (SIG) to their ÂÜÀòÉç¹ÙÍø membership for free! Don’t miss out on this opportunity to join all SIGs that interest you. SIGs can be added when you sign up for or renew your membership and can be updated at any time by contacting customersupport@ama.org. Visit our website at /pop-up-sig-sustainable-marketing/
