Digital Marketing Competition

Introduction

Student Activities, Aug-Dec 2019

After 16 years at the university, I know our summer break comes and goes in the blink of an eye. However, I also know you’re already thinking about your courses in the fall semester.

As a digital marketing professor and a 20-year marketing professional, I know that it is hard finding quality opportunities for your students to learn and achieve success. That’s why Purdue University Northwest has teamed up with key industry players such as digital marketing content provider Stukent to launch the (DMC).

This nationwide competition allows teams of 2-4 students to create a digital marketing campaign for a real corporate client. Participating teams receive the case study outlining the digital marketing challenge, where they’ll perform research and formulate a digital strategy to accomplish a series of campaign objectives.

The DMC consists of two-rounds, where in round one student teams submit an 8-minute video of their campaign ideas to be reviewed by a panel of digital marketing professionals. Five finalists will be selected from the video submissions and invited to compete at the finals right outside Chicago.

I’m extremely excited about the client we will be announcing in the coming month. They’re financially strong, planning expansion into new markets, and are ready to embrace and roll-out the ideas that the students are going to provide in the competition.

Teams that earn a spot in the finals will be invited to pitch their digital marketing campaign directly to the client’s senior leadership team, in the hopes of winning one of the three top prizes: $1,000 for first, $500 for second, and $250 for third place. Four additional awards will also be given for “Best Research/Strategy”, “Best Paid Strategy”, “Best Owned Strategy”, and “Best Media/Evaluation”. The client has also graciously offered to pay for the lodging and entertainment for our final five teams in December.

I know I’ve thrown a lot at you in this email during your summer break, but we’d love to have you and your students participate in this event this fall. We’re accepting both advisor and team registrations at already, and plan on having the case study finished by the middle of August.

Additional details can be found on our website . If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to let me know and we hope to see you in the fall.

Sincerely,
