Introduction

The ÂÜÀòÉç¹ÙÍø's Interorganizational SIG has awarded its 2019 Lifetime Award to James R. Brown

We are pleased to announce the 2019 ÂÜÀòÉç¹ÙÍø IOSIG lifetime award recipient is Professor James R. Brown, a Professor Emeritus of Department of Marketing in the John Chambers College of Business & Economics at West Virginia University, USA.

Professor Brown has numerous publications at premier marketing journals, such as Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Retailing, and Marketing Science. In addition, he has published three books and many book chapters. Professor Brown’s has received many distinguished awards including Louis W. Stern Award for the Outstanding Article in Marketing Channels and Logistics and the Journal of Marketing’s Harold H. Maynard Award for Significant Contribution to Marketing Theory and Thought, among others. Professor Brown has also served the profession in various capacities. He served as Co-Editor of the Journal of Retailing from 2006-2011. He is also a member of the editorial review boards of the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Retailing, and the Journal of Marketing Channels. He has been recognized for his excellent review work by both the Journal of Marketing (1999) and the Journal of Retailing (2005). In addition to serving the profession, Professor Brown left an indelible mark at West Virginia University in playing a critical role in the development of the PhD Program in Business Administration. Although he retired in December 2017, Professor Brown continues to conduct scholarly research and actively mentor doctoral students and recent graduates, a remarkable career spanning nearly 40 years.

The selection committee for the Award was comprised of Shantanu Dutta (University of Southern California and Committee Chair), Jan Heide (University of Wisconsin, Madison), and Gary Lilien (Penn State University and University of Technology, Sydney).

The IOSIG thanks the selection committee for all their work in determining the winner and everyone who nominated a very worthy slate of scholars for the award. Please join the IOSIG on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at 5:30 p.m. for the annual IOSIG members and friends reception at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile to congratulate Professor James R. Brown and to celebrate the 2019 Stern Award being conferred to Rob Palmatier, Mark Houston, Dhruv Grewal, and the late Rajiv Dant.
