GM SIG Significant Contributions to Global Marketing Award
The Global Marketing SIG is pleased to announce that David A. Griffith is the recipient of the 2019 Significant Contributions to Global Marketing Award.
The Significant Contributions Award honors a scholar who has contributed significantly to the field of global marketing. A panel of past winners of the Significant Contributions award, current and past editors/co-editors of the Journal of International Marketing, and other distinguished academics appointed by the board of directors of the ÂÜÀòÉç¹ÙÍø Global Marketing SIG selected the winner. This year’s selection committee for the Award was comprised of Kelly Hewett (University of Tennessee and Committee Chair), Jan-Benedict Steenkamp (University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill), and Neil Morgan (Indiana University).
Professor David A. Griffith is Department Head, Hallie Vanderhider Chair in Business and Professor of Marketing at Texas A&M University. Professor Griffith is internationally known for his global marketing efforts in relation to adapting strategy to cultural differences. Dr. Griffith is also only the second scholar to be recognized twice (2015 & 2018) by the ÂÜÀòÉç¹ÙÍø with the Hans B. Thorelli Award – recognizing an article for significant and long-term contribution to international marketing theory or practice (in 25 years of this award). He is also one of the few scholars to receive the ÂÜÀòÉç¹ÙÍø Global Marketing Special Interest Group Excellence in Research Award twice (2014 & 2018). Most recently, in 2019 he was recognized by the Academic of International Business with a “Silver medal” for scholars with at least 5 substantive contributions in the Journal of International Business Studies in the first 50 years. More broadly in relation to the field marketing, he has been ranked as a leading scholar numerous times. For example, in 2019 he was recognized as being tied for the 18th most productive scholars in the leading two marketing journals (i.e., Journal of Marketing and Journal of Marketing Research) over the time period 2009-2018. He was also recognized as being within the top 30 academics in the world in each of the last 6 rankings (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018).
The Significant Contributions Award will be presented at the Global Marketing SIG reception during 2019 Summer ÂÜÀòÉç¹ÙÍø Conference in Chicago. Please join us in offering congratulations to David A. Griffith for his outstanding contribution to global marketing field.
