Call for Special Issue Submissions

Public Opinion Quarterly is seeking submissions for its 2020 special issue titled "Public Opinion and Political Communication in a Changing Information Environment."

This special issue welcomes theoretically informed contributions including, but not limited to:

  • Challenges of measuring public opinion in this evolving environment, including the use of social media as public opinion
  • The role of the high-choice media environment in easing or amplifying political inequalities, including rates of exposure to political information, levels of political participation, and political knowledge
  • The influence of social media and emerging forms of digital communication on citizens, public opinion, political behavior, political agendas, and/or elections
  • Information accuracy, rumors, and/or disinformation; the impact of (dis)information on citizens, public opinion, political behavior, political agendas, and/or elections
  • The interaction of online and offline activities, including media use, in shaping public opinion, political knowledge, and political behavior
  • The role of platforms and algorithms in shaping public opinion

To ensure consideration for this special issue, authors must include a cover letter that states clearly the submitted manuscript is for the consideration for the 2020 special issue.
