Special Issue: Recent Advances in Survey Methodology

Public Opinion Quarterly seeks submissions for a special issue on recent advances in survey methodology. This special issue is in honor of Eleanor Singer, whose methodological and substantive work in the field shaped a generation of survey research. Singer passed away on June 3, 2017.

This special issue invites contributions in three broad areas that reflect Singer’s particularly strong influence.

Ethical issues in survey methodology and survey practice: Original research concerning all aspects of research ethics, broadly construed. This can include ethics with respect to human subjects, consumers of analyses based on survey data, funding agencies, clients, and other stakeholders.

Privacy and confidentiality: Original research reporting on methods to assess or reduce survey error stemming from the sensitive nature of the questions, from broader concerns about privacy, or from limitations imposed by commitments to the protection of human subjects.

Survey nonresponse: Original research on the causes and consequences of unit non-response in surveys and/or on methods to reduce survey error arising from nonresponse.

The deadline for submission of standard research articles and briefer research notes is March 15, 2018.
