Sheila Sasser
Introduction
Sheila Sasser, who taught at Eastern Michigan University, has passed away
Sheila Sasser (middle in the photo above), a professor of marketing at Eastern Michigan University, died suddenly at her home in early March. She joined EMU in 2006 and won a Ronald Collins Distinguished Faculty Award in 2009.
Here is an observation by one of Sheila’s former students:
Did you have a particular class or professor that you believe was most impactful during your time in the IMC program?
- … She teaches the creative strategy and multi-channel media classes. She was a professor that deeply impacted me during my time in the program. She is truly an expert and thought leader in marketing and advertising, bringing so many real-world experiences and examples to the class. She also offers her students the opportunity to participate in conferences and workshops outside of the class to hone their skills. While you aren’t required to attend any in-person events, I was able to meet with her in person at a marketing workshop EMU was hosting, she was a delight to talk to––willing to help her students in any way she can through advice and networking.
Here are some observations by her Department Head, Lewis Hershey:
-
First, nobody ever got a "little bit of Sheila". She poured her whole being into everything she did and everyone she touched, beyond generous in giving of herself and her creative talent. A true giving spirit and force of nature, as Anne Balazs and so many noted at the service.
Second, it so very clear that the grief and loss felt now by those missing her is directly proportionate to the positive impact she had on them. To feel that loss as a burden carried forward is an honor and privilege for the friendship and caring she so freely gave to others.
A truly amazing human being.
