3rd International Colloquium on Kids and Retailing: ‘Wellbeing of the Child15th and 16th June 2017, Bordeaux – France

Distinguished Colleagues,

We have the pleasure of inviting you to submit your research work for the 3rd International Colloquium on Kids and Retailing to be held in Bordeaux, France.

For the 3rd Kids and Retailing Colloquium the theme is ‘Wellbeing of the Child’.

The last decade has seen an increase in economic, social and environmental risks leading companies to reflect on key indicators to achieve their role as responsible retailers. These retailers are subjected to the question of their responsibility and the wellbeing of customers, particularly when they involve children. This research topic is of particular interest because kids are frequently in contact with the point of sales, within the family buying context or as self-sufficient shoppers whilst they are seen as a vulnerable group. Therefore, retailers need to be especially vigilant to the way they consider the psychological, philosophical, emotional and social dimensions of kids’ wellbeing becoming a rising value that retailers can’t avoid.

The lens of wellbeing of the child has the potential for a rich and broad area of theoretical contributions from retail and distribution management scholars, including a child’s socialisation process throughout the retail environment, influence of this environment on childhood obesity, heath and food wellbeing, development of links between charities and retailers for childrens’ wellbeing, young consumers’ rights in the retail process, risks of shopping online for children, etc.

Supporting the concept of interdisciplinarity we welcome submissons from all academic fields.

The best papers will be published as a Special Issue of the International Journal of Retailing and Distribution Management.

The Colloquium is organised by ESSCA Research Lab, ESSCA School of Management, Angers, France and its partners, NovaChild Innovation Network for Children and Emerald Publishing.

I look forward to seeing you at the colloquium.

Kind regards,
