Call for Papers
This call includes guidelines for submissions of research and workshops/special sessions. The deadline for all submissions is October 31, 2016 and decisions will be provided by January 3, 2017.
Submission Guidelines
Authors/Members have three options to submit to the Conference: Full papers, Extended Abstracts, and Workshops/Special Sessions.
- Submit full papers (up to 25 double-spaced pages) to the appropriate Track Chair. These will be double-blind reviewed. Only full papers can be considered for best paper awards, and submission to the special issue.
- Submit extended abstracts (up to 5 double-spaced pages) to the Conference Co-Chairs. These will be reviewed for acceptance by Co-Chairs only.
- Submit proposals for workshops/special sessions to the Conference Co-Chairs.
- All submissions should be formatted according to APA 6th Edition.
Rules for Submissions – Full Papers
- One author for each paper should fill out the Submission Form () BEFORE submitting the paper to the appropriate track chair.
- Full Papers should not exceed 25 double-spaced typed pages. Included in the 25 pages are all figures, tables, references, and appendices.
- For each paper submission, please submit the title page file and the manuscript file to the appropriate track chair. The manuscript file should contain your manuscript and there should be no identifying information concerning authorship. The second file contains contact information concerning all authors and designates a corresponding author. The second file also contains the title page for your manuscript and any acknowledgements. Both files should be sent as WORD attachments on or before October 31, 2016.
- Submissions will be double-blind reviewed. Authors will not know who the reviewers are and reviewers will not know who the authors are.
- For each paper, center the title of the paper at the top of the first page followed by a single-spaced abstract not exceeding 100 words. The body of the paper should be double-spaced. (Remember no author information should be included in this file).
- Authors uncertain regarding the track to which their paper should be sent may submit their two files directly to Hye-Young Kim (hykim@umn.edu) and she will forward the paper to an appropriate track.
Rules for Submissions –Extended Abstracts
- One author for each abstract should fill out the Submission Form () BEFORE submitting the abstract to the conference co-chairs.
- Extended abstracts should be sent directly to the conference co-chairs. They should not exceed 5 pages in length including tables, figures, and references.
- For each abstract, center the title of the presentation followed by author names and institutional affiliation. The body of the abstract should be double-spaced.
- Extended abstract submissions will be reviewed by the co-chairs only. Send extended abstracts to Hye-Young Kim (hykim@umn.edu).
Rules for Both Full Papers/Extended Abstracts
- To be considered for acceptance, at the time of submission the paper/extended abstract MUST NOT: (a) have been previously published, (b) have been accepted for publication, (c) be under consideration for publication elsewhere, or d) be submitted for presentation elsewhere during the conference review process.
- At least one author of an accepted full paper/extended abstract MUST agree to: a) register for the conference prior to the early-bird deadline; b) appear at the conference to present the paper.
Call for Workshop Proposals/Focused Sessions
Proposals for workshops and focused sessions of interest to ACRA members are welcome. Sessions addressing methods to improve teaching, research, writing, or presentation skills are welcome along with sessions addressing emerging industry topics. Proposals should be submitted to Hye-Young Kim (hykim@umn.edu) by October 31, 2016. Proposals should include the following: (1) Name, address, email address, affiliation, and daytime phone number of workshop/session coordinator (2) Workshop/Session title; (3) Type of session (e.g., industry panel, research panel, teaching panel, workshop, etc.) (4) General content of session and names of presenters (5) Statement of benefit of session to ACRA members. All workshops/focused sessions should be designed for delivery within a 60 minute period. Participants leading workshops/focused sessions are expected to register for the conference.
Graduate Student Conference Fee Scholarship
Graduate students with accepted papers/abstracts/workshops, are eligible to apply for a scholarship which will cover up to the full amount of the conference fee. Students with accepted works must provide the name of an ACRA faculty member who is registered to attend the conference as a sponsor. (If more than one student identifies the same faculty member sponsor, scholarship funds will be dispersed at the faculty member’s discretion.)
Call for Papers-Undergraduate Student Papers
Undergraduate students are invited to submit papers based on original research for presentation and to receive the Undergraduate Student Best Paper Award. The paper may be written and submitted by any undergraduate student or student team under the sponsorship of an ACRA faculty member. Students must be currently enrolled in retailing, merchandising, or related programs or have graduated from such a program within the last academic year (2016). The faculty member supervising the research is to be noted as faculty advisor rather than coauthor.
Accepted undergraduate papers can be presented at the annual conference, provided the faculty advisor has a paid registration to the conference. The winning paper will receive a scholarship award in the amount of one conference registration (In the event of multiple authors in attendance, funds will be dispersed at the discretion of the faculty advisor). Deadline for submission is October 31, 2016. Submit to the track chairs of the undergraduate papers. The submission should follow the full paper guidelines.
Best Papers and Journal Special Issues
- One best paper will be selected from accepted full papers and the author(s) will be recognized at the conference.
- Five papers will be invited to be submitted for publication in a special issue of the International Journal of Retail & Distribution Management (IJRDM).
- Five papers will be invited to be submitted for publication in a special issue of the Journal of Retailing and Consumer Services (JRCS).
