THE ETHICS OF DEBT

Debts today increasingly take new forms that impact individuals and the public sphere in unexpected ways. This complexity introduces serious ethical questions that bring together concerns throughout the liberal arts and sciences. This special issue of The Journal of Financial Counseling and Planning will explore the ethical dimensions of household, consumer, and personal finance today. Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):

  • consumer financial capability and well-being
  • the impact of debt upon low-income borrowers
  • relationships between borrowing, saving and investing
  • the influence of consumer literacy and education upon financial behavior
  • cross-cultural and international dimensions of borrowing and lending
  • the ethics of financial counseling and planning
  • consumer financial protection
