The Marketing Strategy SIG is delighted to announce Prof. Bernard J. Jaworski as the winner of the 2015 Mahajan Award for Lifetime Contributions to Marketing Strategy Research. A three member panel of past award winners and past Journal of Marketing editors found Prof. Jaworski’s contributions to Marketing Strategy as highly impactful and deserving of this year’s Mahajan Award. A 1986 Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh, Professor Jaworski is the Peter F. Drucker Chair of Management and Liberal Arts at the Peter F. Drucker and Masatoshi Ito School of Management at Claremont Graduate University (CA). He served as the Interim Dean of the School in 2012. Dr. Jaworski previously served as a professor of marketing on the faculties of the University of Southern California and University of Arizona, and was a visiting faculty member at Harvard Business School.
Dr. Jaworski has made exceptionally strong academic contributions on a variety of topics at the core of marketing strategy. These topics include building customer/market-driven organizations, developing marketing controls, delivering customer solutions, managing customer relationships, managing brands, and managing salesforces. He is one of the most highly cited marketing scholars and his work has been recognized with multiple awards including the inaugural Sheth Foundation Journal of Marketing award for long-term contribution to the marketing discipline (2002) and twice with the Alpha Kappa Psi award (1987; 1991) given to the Journal of Marketing article making the biggest contribution to marketing practice. Prof. Jaworski has taught a variety of undergraduate, MBA, Ph.D. and Executive courses in marketing, strategy and leadership and during his tenure at the University of Southern California, his teaching was recognized with the Golden Apple Award for the MBA teacher of the year. With this year’s Mahajan Award he is recognized for the significant and enduring impact of his seminal work on market orientation and marketing control, the impact of his marketing strategy education on practice, and his continuing research contributions and leadership in the educational institution context. Jaworski is the 16th winner of this award since its institution. Congratulations to Bernie Jaworski.
