Professor V Kumar named 2015 AMS/CUTCO-Vector Marketing Distinguished Marketing Educator

Professor V Kumar (VK) of Georgia State University has been named as the 2015 AMS/CUTCO-Vector Marketing Distinguished Marketing Educator by the Academy of Marketing Science (AMS). With this annual award, AMS recognizes the outstanding career achievement of a marketing educator. Professor Kumar will accept the prestigious honor at the 2015 AMS Annual Conference on May 12 -14 in Denver, Colorado. Professor Kumar is the Regents Professor, Richard and Susan Lenny Distinguished Chair & Professor in Marketing, and the Executive Director – Center for Excellence in Brand & Customer Management at Georgia State University.

The main criteria for awarding this honor selecting an Award winner include: scholarly achievement and impact on the marketing discipline, possessing a global reputation as a good representative of AMS and the marketing discipline, and a strong record of congeniality, collaboration and mentorship.

Professor Kumar’s academic career spans over three decades and has published over 200 articles, books and book chapters. He has published articles in journals including the Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, Marketing Science, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Retailing, Harvard Business Review and the Sloan Management Review. Dr. Kumar’s research impact is both broad and deep and spans across the areas of new research methodologies, research frameworks, conceptual studies of research methods and analytical studies in Marketing Research. Dr. Kumar has introduced pioneering frameworks and models for Customer Lifetime Value, Sales Forecasting, Pattern Recognition through Purchase Sequence, Customer Acquisition and Retention, Macro-Level Diffusion Models, Market Segmentation, Global Marketing and the Impact of Retail Promotions. In bridging the gap between the theory and practice of marketing effectively, Dr. Kumar has worked with many Global Fortune 500 companies to apply his academic prowess in real world industry applications. VK has received nine other lifetime achievement awards from the ÂÜÀòÉç¹ÙÍø, Marketing EDGE and other professional organizations including the Paul D Converse Award. The impact of his international research has culminated in Dr. Kumar being selected as the Chang Jiang Scholar by the Ministry of Education in China, the highest and most prestigious honor given to any academic scholar by the Chinese government. Recently, one of the leading universities in China, Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), has inaugurated International Marketing Science Institute and has named it as V Kumar International Marketing Science Institute. Professor Kumar has mentored over 15 doctoral students, many of whom have won doctoral dissertation awards including the Mary Kay Award and over the years have created an identity for themselves.

Recently, VK has been chosen as a Legend in Marketing where his work is published in a 10 volume encyclopedia with commentaries from scholars worldwide. Finally, VK is the current Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Marketing. Thus, VK has made a significant and important contribution to the quality of research in marketing worldwide and has contributed to the Academy of Marketing Science through publishing, and presenting and chairing tracks in AMS conferences, thereby deserving of the honor of the AMS/CUTCO Distinguished Marketing Scholar Award.
