ASA Section on Statistics in Marketing
The Section on Statistics in Marketing of the American Statistical Association is once again sponsoring travel awards for students to attend the 2014 Joint Statistical Meetings (JSM) in Boston, August 2-August 7, 2014.
Three to five awards will be granted. Award recipients will be recognized and present their work at the Section business meeting. A subsidy of up to $1000 is provided to each winner to cover JSM 2014 expenses. Applicants are also encouraged to submit their proposals for inclusion in topic contributed sessions during JSM 2014 that are sponsored by the Section.
To be eligible to participate you must be a current undergraduate or graduate student at any level. Faculty members are urged to encourage students to apply for these awards. Papers entered in this competition must make a contribution to statistical methodology, theory or practice, as it related to marketing research, customer analytics, consumer behavior, or other related topic area. Experimental and observational studies, or illustrations of novel and interesting applications of statistics, are encouraged.
The research does not have to be complete, but competitors must be able to submit an abstract prospectus that describes the planned research and nature of the intended innovation(s).
To apply, please send the materials requested below to David Schweidel at dschweidel@emory.edu. The deadline for submitting materials is December 15, 2013.
The application should include:
- a cover letter with the applicant’s name, current affiliation and status, and contact information (address, telephone, e-mail);
- an abstract (300 words maximum);
- a draft paper (if available); otherwise, a 3-5 page research prospectus; and
- a letter from his/her adviser that certifies the applicant’s status (e.g., current student or new graduate who completed the degree within the past year), and describes plans to complete the research.
All materials must be received by 5 PM EST, December 15, 2013. Winners will be notified by January 15, 2014. Winners will be selected by the current Section officers:
