JSM 2014

Introduction

The ASA Section on Statistics in Marketing at the 2014 Joint Statistical Meetings, Boston, 2-7 Aug 2014; Paper deadline 19 Nov

The ASA Section on Statistics in Marketing invites you to propose an invited session for inclusion in the program of 2014 Joint Statistical Meetings (JSM). The Meetings will be held in Boston, USA, August 2nd – 7th.

The submission deadline is Sept. 5th.

An invited session can consist of:

  • Invited papers – from two to six participants. All speakers must submit abstracts by 11/19/2013. 110 minute session length.
  • An invited panel – from three to six panelists. One abstract that includes a list of all panel members by 11/19/2013. 110 minutes.
  • An invited poster session – 10-12 participants. Recommended by the program committee, and organized by the JSM Poster Chair, abstracts due 2/3/2014.

The JSM has a "theme" every year. In 2014 it will be "Statistics: Global Impact – Past, Present, and Future."

Information about submitting competitive session proposals can be found at:

Proposed invited sessions are submitted from the above page using the button towards the bottom, just above the list of committee members.

To submit a proposal for our Section, you’d indicate that you are submitting a competitive session proposal, and that the sponsor would be the Section on Statistics in Marketing.

The entire 2014 JSM program committee representing Sections, Committees, and various other groups, selects invited sessions from the submitted competitive proposals. Notification regarding selected competitive sessions will be provided by Sept. 30th.

An invited session proposal that is not selected by the JSM program committee can with some minor modification be resubmitted later as topic contributed session. The submission deadline for topic contributed sessions is Feb. 3, 2014.

A major difference between invited sessions and topic contributed paper sessions is that in the invited sessions you can have fewer speakers, and therefore you can allow more time for each presentation and for discussion.

Here are the objectives of the ASA Section on Statistics in Marketing as stated in our Charter:

"The principal objectives of the Section are to foster the development and application of innovative statistical methodology for the resolution of substantive decision problems in marketing. The scope includes theoretical, methodological, empirical, and applied research oriented toward the practice of marketing."

Lastly, here’s where you can find info about this year’s JSM, which took place last week in Montreal:

I hope you’ll consider submitting a competitive invited session proposal for our Section. Let me know if there’s any information I can provide.

Cheers,

Lynd Bacon
2014 ASA Section Program Chair
