BEST ARTICLE AWARD
The Policy Board of the Journal of Consumer Research is pleased to announce the winners of the Best Article Award for 2012. The Policy Board selected the winners of the Best Article Award based on nominations provided by the JCR Editorial Review Board members and their assessment of the articles appearing in 2009.
The 2012 Winner of the Best Article Award is “Tragic Choices: Autonomy and Emotional Responses to Medical Decisions” by Simona Botti, Kristina Orfali, and Sheena S. Iyengar, which appeared in the October 2009 issue. Botti is an Associate Professor of Marketing at London Business School. Orfali is an Associate Clinical Professor of Bioethics in Pediatrics at Columbia University and a Faculty Associate at the Center for Bioethics and the Institute for Social and Economic Research and Policy. Iyengar is the S.T. Lee Professor of Business in the Management Division at Columbia Business School and Research Director at the Jerome A. Chazen Institute of International Business.
ROBERT FERBER AWARD
The Robert Ferber Award competition is held annually in honor of one of the founders and the second editor of the Journal of Consumer Research. The award is given to the best article appearing in the Journal of Consumer Research from the most recent volume based on a doctoral dissertation. The Ferber Award Judges selected the winner based on nominations provided by the JCR Editorial Review Board. The 2012 Ferber Award Judges were Russ Belk from York University, Dawn Iacobucci from Vanderbilt University, and Rik Pieters from Tilburg University.
The 2012 Ferber Award judges are pleased to announce the Winner of the 35th annual Robert Ferber Award: Sarah Moore for her article “Some Things Are Better Left Unsaid: How Word of Mouth Influences the Storyteller,” which appeared in the April 2012 issue. Moore is an Assistant Professor of Marketing at the University of Alberta. She completed her dissertation at Duke University under the guidance of Gavan Fitzsimons and James Bettman.
DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD
The Distinguished Service Award is given to individuals who have provided many years of exemplary service and dedication to the Journal of Consumer Research. The Editors are pleased to announce the recipient of the sixth Distinguished Service Award: Terence A. Shimp. Professor Shimp is Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the University of South Carolina.
Outstanding Reviewer Awards
Eight individuals from the JCR Editorial Review Board are the recipients of Outstanding Reviewer Awards for 2011-2012. These board members consistently produced constructive, benevolent, and punctual reviews: Jennifer Argo, University of Alberta; Eric Arnould, University of Bath; David Crockett, University of South Carolina; Rosellina Ferraro, University of Maryland; Chris Janiszewski, University of Florida; Amna Kirmani, University of Maryland; Albert Muniz, DePaul University; and Hope Schau, University of Arizona.
