2012 Lehmann Award Winners
The ÂÜÀòÉç¹ÙÍø Marketing Research Special Interest Group (MRSIG) is pleased to announce that Andrew Stephens of the University of Pittsburgh, and co-author, Olivier Toubia of Columbia University, are the recipients of the 2012 Lehmann Award. The Lehmann Award is given each year to the best dissertation based article published in the Journal of Marketing or Journal of Marketing Research in the previous two years.
The winning article, “Deriving Value from Social Commerce Networks,” which appeared in the April 2010 (Volume 47, Number 2) issue of the Journal of Marketing Research, focuses on an emerging phenomenon called “social commerce” which allows individuals to be sellers in online marketplaces and link to other sellers’ “shops”, thus forming a network of sellers in an e-commerce marketplace setting. The marketing research contribution of this paper lies in demonstrating that examining linkages between entities in marketplaces can help explain (and predict) revenues.
The paper was a finalist for the 2011 Paul E. Green Award, which recognizes the best article in the Journal of Marketing Research that demonstrates the greatest potential to contribute significantly to the practice of marketing research.
Andrew Stephens is an Assistant Professor of Business Administration and Katz Fellow in Marketing at the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business, University of Pittsburgh, and Olivier Toubia is Glaubinger Professor of Business at the Columbia Business School, Columbia University.
The Lehmann Award was established in honor of Dr. Donald R. Lehmann in 1997, George E. Warren Professor of Business at Columbia University. This award honors the Best Dissertation-based Article published in the Journal of Marketing or Journal of Marketing Research. This annual award is nominated by any member of the academic community and voted on by the MRSIG Awards Committee.
