Workshop 1: Introduction to Social Media for Educators
Lyle Wetsch, Memorial University of Newfoundland

Social media is a critical component of all businesses and organizations today. Although students are digital natives having been brought up using the technology extensively, their skills and application has been entirely self taught. Without the proper education and guidance, many have not been able to make the move from social media knowledge to social media intelligence. Today’s educators need to play a role in helping students make this transition by employing social media tools in the classroom effectively and educating them on their strategic usage. This workshop is designed to provide educators that are not experienced with using social media effectively in the classroom with a hands-on (computer-on) experience to help begin the journey. The potential and direct application as well as risks and concerns will be addressed with a number of social media channels such as Facebook, Google+, YouTube, Twitter and LinkedIn. Attendees are encouraged to bring a laptop or tablet device to the session as there will be a number of hands-on exercises to get you established with social media and to understand the potential.

Workshop 2: Google Online Marketing Challenge
Theresa Clarke, James Madison University

The Google Online Marketing Challenge is a global competition where students create an online marketing campaign for an actual business using Google’s key advertising product, Google AdWords. Students learn critical online marketing skills over a three-week competition period using a real budget. In this workshop, a three-time winning professor from the Challenge shares how to confidently and effectively implement the Google Online Marketing Challenge and teach students how to use Google AdWords. In the morning session, participants will learn what the Google Online Marketing Challenge is, why it is a valuable course project, and how to incorporate it into a course. The afternoon session is aimed at helping instructors learn as much as possible about paid search using Google AdWords. Note: This workshop is two-part, the second of which is on Wednesday 4:15-5:25pm.

Workshop 3: Starting or Revamping an ÂÜÀòÉç¹ÙÍø Collegiate Chapter
Mary Conran – Temple University
Scott Swanson, University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire
Gail Zank, Texas State – San Marcos

The largest marketing association in North America, the ÂÜÀòÉç¹ÙÍø (ÂÜÀòÉç¹ÙÍø) can play a vital role in the development of our students through collegiate chapter activities. Being an ÂÜÀòÉç¹ÙÍø collegiate member offers many benefits, from career resources, to professional development, planning and execution of collegiate chapter events, to taking part in the many marketing competitions offered annually. ÂÜÀòÉç¹ÙÍø collegiate members put classroom theory into practice! This workshop explores what an ÂÜÀòÉç¹ÙÍø Collegiate Chapter on your campus can provide to this current generation of optimistic, team-oriented, high-achieving students. Emphasis will be placed on helping current or potential chapter advisors navigate some of the pitfalls of starting-up and supervising a chapter, while providing insights into areas such as chapter planning, community service, professional development, communications, membership, and chapter operations. This workshop is appropriate for those individuals thinking about starting an ÂÜÀòÉç¹ÙÍø chapter as well as current ÂÜÀòÉç¹ÙÍø advisors. Workshops facilitators are current ÂÜÀòÉç¹ÙÍø Collegiate Council members including Past-President, and President.
