Revisit: EMAC 2012

Introduction

The second young academic Climber Community event, part of the European Marketing Academy 41st Annual Conference, Lisbon, 22-25 May 2012; Deadline 20 Apr

The second EMAC ?Climber Community? (CC) will take place during the 41th EMAC Conference in Lisbon. Young academics in Marketing at an early stage of their career (e.g., assistant professors), are invited to participate in the CC- meeting on Thursday afternoon during the conference: Thursday, 24th of May 2012, from 2pm to 5.30pm (two subsequent afternoon sessions).

The CC aims to establish a post-doc community in Marketing throughout Europe and other continents. Several research organizations and conferences in Europe offer a special program for PhD students and/or networking possibilities for full professors. However, the generation between beginners and successful leaders sometimes seems to be forgotten, although they represent the potential marketing professors of the future. After finishing their PhD, they have taken their career decision, and have chosen the academic pathway.

Some of them have probably started to build up a network with peers during their PhD studies, have developed expertise in their field of research and applied methods, attended international conferences, and have perhaps already published their first journal articles. In other words, they are the "climbers" of the European Marketing Academy. For further information on the CC please go to: .

The agenda of this second CC-meeting will cover the following topics:

  • Introduction of the EMAC’s CC initiative
  • Keynote presentation followed by an open discussion: Professor Christian Homburg (), excellent researcher with an impressive CV, and a long list of prizes and publications in top international journals, will participate in this second EMAC CC-meeting as keynote-speaker and mentor. In his short presentation about “Success Factors for Future Academics” Professor Homburg will give insights into his career paths, and will then be available for an extended “fireside chat”; during which CC participants will be able to ask him questions regarding career development, publishing, and other relevant topics.
  • Panel discussion: Three successful young scholars (Marius Luedicke, Ernst Osinga Isabella Soscia) from three European countries will talk about their professional experience in their respective countries, and their hitherto career development in an informal and open way. They will give the participants insights into the successes and maybe also challenges of their ways, and will be open for questions and discussion.
  • Networking (getting to know each other; who else is in my stage and in my research field; who is facing the same challenges as I do; …), and taking the first step to develop an international research network.
  • Feedback and future developments of the CC

The CC is open to all post docs (and PhD students in their final phase who want to stay in academia) who are members of the EMAC.

Due to organizational issues and to facilitate networking possibilities during the EMAC CC-meeting, an informal registration is required:
