The Aalto University School of Economics “That’s Interesting! Paper Award recognizes the Global Marketing Conference (GMC) paper that most effectively pushes the boundaries of our existing knowledge in the field. The criteria for the award are based on the extent to which the paper:
      crosses boundaries,
challenges taken-for-granted assumptions in the field,
      denies old “truths”,
      attracts the reader’s attention, and
      makes an original argument.
The award has been named after Murray S. Davis’ seminal article, published in 1971, about how to define what is interesting in social sciences (Davis, M.S. 1971. That’s interesting! Towards a phenomenology of sociology and sociology of phenomenology. Philosophy of the Social Sciences, 1: 309-344).
The 2012 selection committee consists of professor Pekka Mattila, chair (Aalto University School of Economics), professor Henrikki Tikkanen (Aalto University School of Economics) and professor John Schouten (University of Portland).
Each track chair is asked to nominate one paper for this award, based on reviewers’ evaluations and the track chair’s own reading of the papers. Nominated papers may address any topic in Marketing, so long as they meet the above criteria.
Nomination by track chair should be sent to Professor Pekka Mattila who is Selection Committee Chair of ‘2012 That’s interesting! Paper Award’ by April 30, 2012: pekka.mattila@aalto.fi
The committee will select the award winner who will receive the award at the GMC annual meeting in Seoul, from July 19-22, 2012. The winner will receive a plaque and a US$1,500 cash award delivered.
