The Direct Marketing Educational Foundation (DMEF) is pleased to present a student marketing competition from SkyMall, the sponsor of the 2011-2012 DMEF Collegiate ECHO Direct/Interactive Marketing Challenge.

Involving media such as social, mobile, and other digital communications, student teams worldwide are invited to create marketing plans to increase sales for the largest in-flight cataloger in the US. The Challenge provides teaching resources for academic faculty, educates the next generation of direct and interactive marketers, and gives visibility to the sponsoring company in the academic and corporate worlds. SkyMall also benefits as they see the top campaign ideas from student teams worldwide.

Students can form undergraduate or graduate teams consisting of 2-4 members. A minimum of one month is needed to create the campaign, with or without the guidance of a faculty advisor. Invited to accept the challenge are advertising / marketing clubs, students working independently as an extracurricular activity, students seeking college credit for an independent study project (arranged with their school or department), or students required to complete the Challenge as part of a course curriculum. An online Intent to Compete form is required to register for the Challenge by April 20. The campaign submission deadline (also online) is May 18.

The schools of winning undergraduate teams receive grants from DMEF to award scholarships to deserving students. Gold, Silver, and Bronze ECHO trophies are awarded to the first-, second-, and third-place teams, in addition to cash awards for undergraduate winning teams. Honorable mention certificates are also provided to teams that shine in a particular area such as market research, creative strategy or budgeting.

Started in 1984 and open to students in colleges and universities in all majors worldwide, the Collegiate ECHO Direct/Interactive Marketing Challenge is conducted by DMEF. Previous sponsors of the Challenge include charity: water, Microsoft Advertising, Pitney Bowes, Hallmark Cards, and The Upjohn Company/Rogaine. Participation in the Collegiate ECHO Challenge is a differentiator for job seekers.

ÂÜÀòÉç¹ÙÍøt Direct Marketing Educational Foundation (DMEF)

Headquartered in New York City, the Direct Marketing Educational Foundation (DMEF) works to attract, educate, and place college students in direct/interactive marketing careers, and, thereby, expanding and enriching the talent pool of trained, market-ready marketers. Established in 1966 by members of the Direct Marketing Association (DMA) who wanted to give something back to the community, DMEF is today a separate, 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation that is supported solely by tax-deductible contributions from individuals and companies. Tax-deductible contributions are the lifeblood of the DMEF; funds raised support a broad range of world-class educational programs and scholarships.

Since its founding, thousands of students have taken advantage of DMEF’s educational programs, entering the field with the competitive edge of being “workplace-ready.” Many have gone on to become today’s marketing leaders, an indication of the Foundation’s success. In addition, more than 2,000 professors have participated in DMEF programs. For additional information about the DMEF, its mission, and its programs, visit .
