A Celebration of Life for Dr. Edna Johnson Ragins
Dr. Edna Johnson Ragins, Associate Professor and Chairperson, Department of Marketing, Transportation, and Supply Chain, at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (A & T), died on Monday, May 9, at her home in Greensboro, NC after a serious illness.
Dr. Ragins, who was very active in her church and community affairs, began teaching at A & T, School of Business, in 1990. Prior to her career at A & T, Edna was on the faculty at Bowie State University, in Bowie, MD. Immediately after graduate school, she was a financial analyst with Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, MI.
Dr. Ragins’ students felt she was an effective educator who mastered the art of encouraging class participation while maintaining a very well organized lesson. She was loved by all who knew her, and her zest for life was as infectious as her quick wit and joyous laughter. Edna has a wide circle of loving, devoted friends.
Edna was born on the campus of Prairie View State University where her father began his teaching career. She is survived by her loving family which includes her father, two sisters, two nieces, two nephews, great-nephew and great- niece, numerous cousins, and a host of other relatives.
A celebration of life in Professor Ragins’ honor will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2011 (11:00 am) at North Carolina A&T University Alumni-Foundation Event Center, 200 Benbow RD, Greensboro, NC (336-433-5560).
