ACCI Names Sharon Tennyson, Ph.D.
(next) Editor, Journal of Consumer Affairs
Michael Finke, President of the Board of Directors of the American Council on Consumer Interests is pleased to announce the naming of Sharon L. Tennyson, Ph.D., as the new editor of the Journal of Consumer Affairs. Dr. Tennyson, a Cornell University economist, is an expert on consumer protections and financial regulation. Tennyson holds a Ph.D. in economics in the fields of industrial organization and public finance from Northwestern University. She joined the Cornell faculty in 1998. Her teaching and research focuses on the impact of government laws and regulation on consumers and financial institutions, particularly the workings of insurance markets. She also studies consumer insurance literacy, insurance bad faith liability, car insurance regulation, consumer information in insurance and prescription drug markets, and the law and economics of women’s rights. Tennyson currently serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Risk and Insurance, the Journal of Insurance Regulation, and Insurance Markets and Companies: Analyses and Actuarial Computations.
“We live in an era of heightened awareness and concern about consumer issues, making this an especially exciting time to take over as editor of the Journal of Consumer Affairs,” said Tennyson, associate professor of policy analysis and management in the College of Human Ecology. “The journal has become an increasingly influential research outlet in recent years. I see a fantastic opportunity for the journal to publish research that increases policymakers’ understanding of consumer behaviors and the implications of the economic, political, and regulatory environment for consumers’ well-being.”
"ACCI is extremely excited that Dr. Tennyson has agreed to lead this flagship journal into the next decade. She is a well-respected economist and shares the passion for the well-being of consumers with our members and journal readers," said Finke. "We look forward to working with her to continue on the exemplary work of Dr. Herbert Rotfeld, who will complete his editorial responsibilities later this year."
The peer-reviewed journal, founded in 1967 by the American Council on Consumer Interests, features research and analysis on the social, legal, economic and political influences on consumer interests.
