Track on “Business Analytics and Data Analysis”

We are organizing a track entitled “Business Analytics and Data Analysis” for the Classification Society conference, which takes place in Pittsburgh in June 2011.  “Analytics” is currently a hot topic in the corporate world.  Corporations have access to ever increasing amounts of data and there is a need for techniques to help utilize these data for business advantage.  The broad topic of “Business Analytics” covers a plethora of techniques, from simple metrics to complex statistical models.  In this track, we hope to gather a selection of papers that demonstrate the use of classification and data analysis techniques in a business analytics context.  Both novel applications of existing techniques and newly developed techniques are welcome. A topic list is given below. 
 
The Classification Society is a nonprofit interdisciplinary and international organization whose purposes are to promote the scientific study of classification and clustering (including systematic methods of creating classifications from data), and to disseminate scientific and educational information related to its fields of interests.  Extracting useful information from large and complex machine-readable data sets is a problem faced by people in nearly every area of commerce, manufacturing, government, and in every academic discipline and science. Creating an environment conducive to solving such problems requires assembling a community with broad collective expertise in mathematics, statistics, computing, and a wide variety of different application areas. Join us in addressing and solving the great data analysis problems of our time.

Submission of Abstracts: The submission is abstract only.  There will not be a paper proceedings volume. Abstracts for the session should be sent to france@uwm.edu.  The abstract can be up to 300 words long.
