Foundation Announces Rebecca Hamilton as 2011 Erin Anderson Award Recipient
The ÂÜÀòÉç¹ÙÍø Foundation (ÂÜÀòÉç¹ÙÍøF) announces Rebecca Hamilton as the recipient of the 2011 Erin Anderson Award for an emerging female marketing scholar and mentor.
Rebecca Hamilton is Associate Professor of Marketing at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business. She has been on the faculty at the University of Maryland since 2000, when she received her Ph.D. from MIT’s Sloan School of Management. Professor Hamilton’s research focuses on consumer decision making and the effects of consumers’ information processing strategies on their attitudes and choices. Her research has been published in journals such as the Journal of Consumer Research, the Journal of Marketing Research, and the Harvard Business Review. Her dissertation received an honorable mention in the Association for Consumer Research’s Ferber Award competition, and she was recognized as an MSI Young Scholar in 2007. She currently serves on the Editorial Review Boards of the Journal of Consumer Research and the Journal of Interactive Marketing. Professor Hamilton teaches consumer behavior, brand management and research methods to undergraduate, MBA, and doctoral students.
The award recognizes and honors the life of Erin Anderson, a widely respected mentor and marketing scholar from INSEAD, who after successfully winning a battle against cancer, passed away unexpectedly in 2007. During her career, she published over forty scholarly articles in the top academic journals. Her paper on the role of pledges in channel relationships was the first recipient of the Louis Stern Award selected and presented by the ÂÜÀòÉç¹ÙÍø Interorganizational Special Interest Group. Based on her citations, she was in the top 1½% of researchers in the social sciences. But, Professor Anderson was more than a top-notch academic scholar; she was a caring mentor to many Ph.D. students and faculty members. She was a much-loved Ph.D. supervisor and she shared her experiences and insights with many faculty members as they launched their academic careers, encouraging and enabling women in academe.
Professor Hamilton is becoming a leading marketing academic in the mold of Professor Anderson. One who goes beyond her significant research contributions to help others develop their careers. She will be awarded the 3rd annual Erin Anderson Award on February 19, 2011 at the ÂÜÀòÉç¹ÙÍø Winter Marketing Educators’ Conference in Austin, TX.
According to Anne Coughlan, Professor of Marketing at Northwestern University and Erin Anderson Award Committee Chair, “Rebecca Hamilton is highly deserving of the Erin Anderson award. She represents excellence in research, impact in the field and in practice, and a devotion to the development of new scholars. We congratulate Rebecca on her achievements to date, and look forward to seeing more in the future."
