Vale Andrew Ehrenberg

Professor Andrew Ehrenberg passed away peacefully in hospital last week. Professor Ehrenberg will be remembered for his unwavering pursuit of empirical generalizations in marketing science, and in particular for the development, along with Goodhardt and Chatfield, of the Dirichlet model of repeat-purchase. Ehrenberg published over 200 papers in the period from the late 1950’s to the 2000’s. His work included multiple articles in the prestigious science journal Nature, on the topic of lawlike patterns in consumer behaviour.


Andrew concluded his career at London Southbank University, where his colleagues continue with work in the Ehrenberg tradition, supported by leading corporate sponsors, and collaborators at the Ehrenberg-Bass Institute for Marketing Science, University South Australia.
