Special Issue on ‘Individual differences in decision-making competence’

Individual differences have traditionally received limited attention from researchers in the field of decision making. However, recent research has led to significant advances and has provided insights into how individual decision-making skills relate to each other, to cognitive abilities and to real-world outcomes. Reliable and valid instruments for the measurement of decision-making competence have recently been developed and made available, inspiring new lines of research.

The aim of the special issue is to collect a representative set of research contributions exploring the cognitive and emotive underpinnings of individual differences in decision-making competence across the life span, and to identify the most promising lines for future research in this area. Related aims are to encourage theoretical analyses of decision-making competence and to show methodological advances in the research on individual differences in decision-making competence.

Manuscripts can be empirical reports or theoretical/methodological papers examining aspects of decision-making competence from an individual-differences prospective. They should conform to the specifi cations described in the ‘Instructions to Authors’ that appear in each issue of JBDM (see also ).

In the cover letter, authors should indicate a desire to have their manuscript considered for the special issue on ‘Individual differences in decision-making competence’.
