New IJRM Editors appointed

Last fall, the EMAC Executive Council established a committee to appoint a new editor for the International Journal of Research in Marketing. The present co-editors, Stefan Stremersch and Donald R. Lehmann, had indicated that they did not wish to be considered for reappointment. The Search Committee consisted of three members: Hubert Gatignon (chairman, ex-officio as Vice President Publications), Jan-Benedict Steenkamp and Bruce Hardie.

After a careful process, in which the Search Committee solicited input from the EMAC community and the IJRM Editorial Review Board, and working closely with Stefan Stremersch and Donald R. Lehmann, the Search Committee is extremely pleased to announce that it has appointed as the editor: Marnik Dekimpe (Tilburg University, The Netherlands / Catholic University Leuven, Belgium). The appointment decision was unanimous. The new editor has a remarkable publication record and, while he displays extraordinary methodological expertise, his interests are broad within the field of Marketing with relevant managerial implications. Given his reputation and record, Marnik will undoubtedly continue to enhance the visibility and status of IJRM. Marnik will publish his editorial policy later this year.

Marnik’s term as editor will start as from 1 October 2009. He will work closely with Stefan and Don to arrange a smooth transition. All new submissions from October 1 will be handled by Marnik, while revised manuscripts will still be handled by Stefan and Don up to the end of this year (31 December 2009). Marnik will then handle all manuscripts, including revisions begining 1 January 2010. The editorial office will move from Erasmus University Rotterdam to Tilburg University. Cecilia Nalagon will join Marnik in Tilburg University and she’ll continue being the journal’s managing editor.

Please join me in wishing Marnik wisdom and success, and congratulating him on his appointment. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Stefan and Don for the superb job they have done in leading IJRM during the last three years. Stefan and Don have dedicated countless hours to our community and they have successfully contributed to enhance the quality, rigor, and reputation of IJRM. It is because of people like Stefan and Don who are dedicated to our profession that the international community of marketing scientists grows ever more strongly. The Search Committee is confident that the new editor will continue the growth trajectory of IJRM. Hubert Gatignon Vice-President Publications EMAC
