Pepperdine Mourns the Passing of Professor Roy Adler
Professor Roy Adler
The Pepperdine community is saddened by the sudden passing of long-time faculty member Roy Adler on Saturday, Mar. 7.
Adler was a professor of marketing at Seaver College. Educated at Bucknell University, Western Michigan University, and Xavier University, he received his Ph.D. in marketing from the University of Alabama and had been a licensed psychologist in the state of Ohio for 30 years.
He was a member of St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church in Newbury Park, an army officer, a marketing executive at Procter & Gamble, coach of seven Olympic athletes, a participant in the Cannonball Run, chief researcher for Jerry Springer, and the author of three books and dozens of articles.
Adler was recognized by his peers as a distinguished Fellow of the Academy of Marketing Science-one of only about 40 in the world-but was most proud of the University-wide Luckman Award for teaching bestowed by his former students.
A Facebook page has been created in Dr. Adler’s memory to share stories, memories, and photos:
"Beloved teacher, scholar, colleague, husband, father, and friend, go with God," Business Division chair Connie James offers in prayer. "We will miss you, our friend. We will cherish the memories of your laughter and love of life. We know you are lifting spirits even now. We promise to take care of the students you loved so well."
Adler leaves behind a wife, Ceil, and two sons, Doug and Davidson. In lieu of flowers, the Adler family has asked that gifts be donated to Pepperdine University and the Business Division-Marketing. For more information about donating, contact Sam Lagana at +1 (310) 506-4454.
