You are invited to participate in the Research and Education Track of the 2009 ESRI Business GIS Summit to be held at the Westin Tabor Center, Denver, Colorado, May 4-6, 2009. The Research and Education Track of the Conference is co-sponsored by the University of Redlands and the Small Business Administration and will include research presentations, symposia and workshops. We encourage you to submit research papers, research-in-progress papers, symposia, and panels/workshops.
This innovative and unique conference brings together leading experts in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), researchers and business practitioners, to create an important and unique learning opportunity. The conference is a must-attend for anyone interested in GIS and Spatial Analysis in Business, such as researchers, business professionals, students or others seeking to learn more about GIS and Spatial Analysis. Scholars and researchers will have the opportunity to share their research, teaching experiences, learn from others’ experiences and network with other academics as well as practitioners in the field of GIS and Spatial Analysis.
We invite you to submit papers that relate to spatial analysis research and that focus on businesses, organizations, and industry. A broad range of papers will be considered – including applications of spatial analysis in business, research on the environment of business such as economic analysis tools, marketing tools, the spatial web and mobile services, industry level analysis, case studies, enterprise GIS, and small enterprise applications. Papers relating to the use of spatial analysis in small business are particularly welcome. The conference also welcomes presentations on innovative curriculum design in teaching spatial analysis for business, teaching cases, and pedagogical approaches.
Proceedings: All accepted full length manuscripts and research in progress papers, as well as special session summaries will be published in the double-blind refereed Conference Proceedings (available online and CD). See the 2008 Proceedings at .
SUBMISSION TYPES
- Papers
- Full-length theoretical and empirical papers: Full manuscripts of completed research.
- Research in Progress: Abbreviated manuscripts of research in progress.
- Special Sessions
- Symposia: Focus on important research opportunities, approaches and learning in the domains of GIS and Spatial Analysis. If accepted, the symposium coordinator will need to provide the conference chair with confirmation of participation from each participant.
- Panels, Workshops and other innovative sessions: Innovative sessions are encouraged. These sessions can take a variety of formats, but should focus on important GIS and Spatial Analysis content, approaches, and issues domains. Sessions can emphasize research, practice, teaching or some relevant combination.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
- Full Papers and Research-in-Progress manuscripts, along with a separate Abstract must be submitted via email by January 20, 2009 to spatialbusinessconference@redlands.edu. All submissions must be MS-Word file attachments (.doc or .docx). A large figure (over 8mb) should be converted to .pdf and separately attached as a .pdf file. Submitted papers cannot have been previously accepted, published, presented, or be under review for another conference or journal. Subsequent publication, with proper acknowledgement, is encouraged. Acceptance decisions will be sent February 16, 2009.
- At least one author must register for, attend and present their work at the conference. For Special Sessions, every participant must register and attend the conference.
- The maximum length of all full paper submissions is 25 pages including the title page, figures, references and appendices; research-in-progress submissions are limited to 12 pages. Please remove all personally identifiable information from your paper submission. As a separate MS-Word file, submit a 300 word abstract which should include title, author(s) name(s) and affiliation, and primary contact information. Your abstract should address the contributions or benefits of your paper or special session.
- Paper submissions will be double-blind reviewed; thus, no author names or other identifying information should appear anywhere in the manuscript (not even on the title page). This does not apply to symposia, workshops, panel discussions or other formats which are not blind reviewed.
- Papers should use the APA style for citations ().
- Manuscripts should be double spaced with 1 inch margins on all four sides. The page setup should be for standard U.S. Letter size (8.5 x 11 inches). Manuscripts should be prepared in Times New Roman font, size 12.
- Special Session Proposals should be double spaced with 1 inch margins on all four sides. The page setup should be for standard U.S. Letter size (8.5 x 11 inches), in Times New Roman font, size 12.
- Symposia: The body of the symposium proposal should include a 3-5 page summary of the symposium session and proposed format of the symposium as well as a 2-3 page description of each speaker’s topic with speaker backgrounds. If accepted, the symposium coordinator should provide to the program chair confirmations of participation from each participant.
- Panels, workshops and other innovative sessions: Innovative sessions are encouraged. These submissions should provide a description of the proposed session content and format, target audience, and a clear description of how the session will benefit the target audience. For panels, provide panelist backgrounds.
