Introduction
Tenure-track position as an Assistant or Associate Professor of Marketing
The Department of Sales, Marketing and Hospitality & Tourism at Western Carolina University invites applicants for a tenure track position as an Assistant or Associate Professor of Marketing beginning fall semester 2009.
Normal teaching load will be three courses per semester at the undergraduate or graduate level with doctoral qualification. Research expectations are consistent with AACSB standards. Primary duty assignment will be the main campus in Cullowhee although some assignments may be in Asheville or other off campus sites. Teaching assignments may also involve evening classes, online and/or distance education classes.
The Department, College, and University expect the successful candidate to possess outstanding communication skills, a record of demonstrated excellence in the classroom and related work experience. The successful candidate may be expected to fulfill some institutional service obligations as appropriate. A commitment to active engagement with professionals in the business community would be appreciated. The university is in the development stages of implementing its cutting edge Quality Enhancement Program (QEP), Synthesis: Pathways to Intentional Learning, and the successful candidate will be instrumental in promoting the scholarship of engagement that is a part of this model.
The College of Business is AACSB accredited and has over 65 full-time faculty members. The Department of Sales, Marketing and Hospitality & Tourism has eleven full-time faculty members.
The tenure, promotion and reappointment policies of the College of Business and the University are based on all four quadrants of the Boyer Model of Scholarship. Consequently, faculty have the opportunity to apply their scholarly activities to help solve problems that face the larger community beyond the boundaries of campus, to integrate student learning with the scholarship of engagement, to advance the pedagogy, as well as to investigate issues of interest within and across academic disciplines.
