We have already received over 200 submissions for the 4th International Conference: "Planning for the Future – Learning from the Past: Contemporary Developments in Travel, Tourism & Hospitality", organised by the University of the Aegean and to be held at Rhodes island, Greece, the 3-5 of April 2009.

However, due to requests by numerous colleagues, I am pleased to inform you that the deadline for the submission of abstracts for the above conference has been extended until the 9th of November 2008 – please see the Call for Papers bellow for more information or visit the conference website at:

FOR THE 4th INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE

«Planning for the Future – Learning from the Past: Contemporary Developments in Tourism, Travel & Hospitality»

Rhodes, Greece 3-5 April 2009

Submission of Abstracts & Final Papers

The research track of the congress will be exploring the overall theme of “Planning for the Future – Learning from the Past: Contemporary Developments in Tourism, Travel & Hospitality”, and will focus on sub-themes like: a) Education; b) Marketing; c) Management; d) Human Resources; e) Information Technology; f) Planning & Development; g) Finance & Economics; h) Service Quality; i) Operations Management; j) Food & Beverage; k) Catering; l) Travel & Leisure; m) Destination Management; n) Alternative Forms of Tourism; o) Sustainability.

Submitted abstracts should be relevant with the overall congress theme objectives and at least one of the congress sub-themes, should be written in English, and should be submitted in time (see bellow for “important dates”). All contributions must be original (i.e. not been published elsewhere), follow academic writing, structure and methodology. Paper submissions will be blind-refereed by at least two anonymous reviewers.

Conference Proceedings & Publication Opportunities in Special Issues

All accepted final papers will be included in the official congress proceedings. The proceedings will be published professionally in an electronic form and a free copy of the proceedings will be given to registered congress delegate.

Authors of conference papers that provide a solid and critical literature review as well as interesting practical and/or theoretical implications will have the opportunity to submit and publish their work at special issues of the following prestigious international refereed journals:

* Authors of accepted abstracts will be informed about the submission specifications/guidelines for the full papers. Only papers presented at the conference will be included in the conference proceedings.

The University of the Aegean, was founded in 1984, and has 5 Schools and 17 Departments with a student population exceeding 10000 (undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral candidates) and almost 500 faculty members. The central administration of the University is located in the island of Mytilene, while various Schools and Departments have been established in the islands Chios, Samos, Rhodes, Syros and Mytilene. The University emphasizes the development and promotion of new disciplines and innovative curricula that adhere to the needs of the contemporary society and the requirements of the global community.

The Department of Business Administration was the first to be established at the University of the Aegean, and in 2005 celebrated its 20th anniversary. The Department has almost 30 full-time and part-time faculty members, and over 400 students (undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral candidates). The Department offers an undergraduate degree in Business Administration with specializations in: a) Tourism Management, b) Marketing, c) Finance & Accounting, and d) Management & New Technologies. At postgraduate level, the Department offers a Master in Business Administration (with specialisations in Human Resources, Operations Management, and Accounting & Auditing), as well as a PhD Program.

The Interdepartmental Program of Postgraduate Studies in Tourism Planning, Policy & Management offers a Master of Science degree as well as PhD studies, focusing on a multi-disciplinary approach in the study of tourism. The Program is jointly run by 5 Departments of the University of the Aegean, namely the Department of Business Administration, the Department of Geography, the Department of Environment, and the Department of Social Anthropology. The a Master of Science degree offers two alternative specializations: a) Strategic Tourism Planning, and b) Hospitality Management.
