The School of Hospitality Business Management in the College of Business at Washington State University is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Director at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. The Director reports to the Dean of the College of Business.
The School of Hospitality Business Management at Washington State University is ranked among the top hospitality programs in the country, along with being the third oldest, and it is one of only a small number of such programs housed within an AACSB-Accredited College of Business. Located in Pullman, WA, the School is a bold, innovative, and inclusive teaching and research entity where faculty, staff, and students are challenged to be active citizens of the world. The School consists of eight full-time faculty members who value quality research, excellent teaching, relevant service, and shared governance. The faculty believes in working together toward common goals. Washington State University is a land grant institution founded in 1890 and is one of two major research universities in the State of Washington. WSU serves the needs of over 22,000 students on four campuses. The main Pullman campus is located in the Palouse region of southeastern Washington. The director is expected to provide strong, visionary, collaborative leadership to advance the school’s stature among the world’s top hospitality schools. Responsibilities include: overseeing the administrative and academic functions of the school; managing existing endowments and other funds consistent with the mission of the school; maximizing financial support that promotes alumni and friends’ involvement, and providing the means for innovative collaboration between faculty and industry. The director serves as the leading advocate for faculty, programs, and students to internal constituencies, the hospitality business community, and other external constituencies.
Qualifications: A Ph.D. in hospitality or closely related field from a nationally or internationally recognized university is required. In addition, candidates must possess a notable record of teaching, research, and service sufficient to merit the rank of associate or full professor in the school. The successful candidate also must have demonstrated leadership qualities, including the ability to: attract and inspire distinguished faculty, talented staff, and outstanding students; build productive teams and work effectively with them; cultivate and maintain relationships with alumni and the hospitality business community; and increase gifts, endowments, and other significant revenue sources. In addition, the successful candidate must have proven ability to work effectively with individuals and groups from a variety of identities, cultures, backgrounds, and ideologies.
