David D. (Danny) Monieson – Emeritus Nabisco Professor of Marketing at Queen’s University, passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2008. Born and raised in Montreal, Dan Monieson was educated in economics and statistics at the University of Vermont (1949), earned his MBA at Miami University of Ohio (1951) and PhD in Marketing at the Ohio State University (1957). After serving on the faculties of the University of Toronto and Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania during the 1950s, Dan joined the School of Business at Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario in 1961. Twice a winner of the Queen’s School of Business Best Teacher Award, during more than three decades as a marketing teacher and consultant he inspired students and business managers who became leaders in the business world. Recipient of the Journal of Macromarketing Slater Award, as a philosopher and historian of marketing his ideas about usable knowledge have influenced scholars around the world. Dan was also among the pioneers in business education to apply complexity theory to business.
