POSITION IN STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT
BROCK SCHOOL OF BUSINESS
SAMFORD UNIVERSITY

The Brock School of Business at Samford University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Strategic Management in the Department of Entrepreneurship, Management, and Marketing (rank is open) to begin January or August 2009.  Required qualifications include an earned doctorate in Management or related field.  ABDs with significant teaching experience, especially in Strategic Management, may also be considered.

The successful candidate for this position should have teaching interests in undergraduate and graduate Strategic Management courses.  Standard teaching loads are 3 courses per semester (2 of these will typically be undergraduate Strategic Management sections), and salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.   The Strategic Management course is taught at the Brock School as a comprehensive, capstone course; thus, covering all business disciplines (marketing, economics, finance, etc.) using comprehensive cases is necessary when teaching the course.

The Brock School of Business is currently implementing initiatives to establish a world-class entrepreneurship program that provides students cross-disciplinary training in critical aspects of starting and managing a small, new, family, and/or socially entrepreneurial business.  For example, the School’s Social Entrepreneurship program is listed as one of only 18 and 28 programs in the U.S. and world, respectively, in the most recent Social Entrepreneurship Handbook ().  Thus, a secondary interest in entrepreneurship, broadly defined (e.g., new venture creation, new product development, small or family business management, corporate entrepreneurship, innovation management, or social entrepreneurship), is advantageous when applying for this position.

We invite you to visit our website, , for more details about the Brock School of Business, our recent naming gift, and our recent initiatives in marketing, entrepreneurship, social entrepreneurship, business ethics (including establishing the Frances Marlin Mann Center for Ethics and Leadership), and other disciplines.  Based on current AACSB International information, the naming gift of $100 million could potentially place the Brock School of Business among the top 25 accredited business schools and top five faith-based universities with business schools in the United States in terms of total endowment market value. The Brock School of Business is accredited by AASCB International and has over 550 students in its undergraduate, MAcc, and MBA programs.

Samford University, founded in 1841, is a private, Christian university with historic ties to the Alabama Baptist Convention enrolling approximately 4,500 undergraduate and graduate students. US News & World Report ranked Samford fourth in the South in its 2006 edition of America’s Best Colleges.  The university is located in a suburb of Birmingham, Alabama, a metropolitan area of approximately one million people, and is an equal opportunity employer.

Formal review of applications will begin July 1 and will continue until the position is filled.    To apply, please submit a current vita, samples of scholarly work, evidence of teaching effectiveness, and the names of three references to ftlohrke@samford.edu. School representatives also will be available during both the upcoming Academy of Management and ÂÜÀòÉç¹ÙÍø meetings in August to discuss this position.
