DEPARTMENT CHAIR, DEPARTMENT OF MARKETING
Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of the Department Chair fall into three broad areas: Strategic Leadership, Operational Administration, and Relationship Management. These areas are defined as follows:
- Strategic Leadership: Directing and facilitating the ongoing improvement of the department in its mission to deliver the highest quality Marketing education at both the undergraduate and graduate level and to contribute high-quality scholarship to the Marketing discipline.
- Operational Administration: Coordinating and managing the day-to-day operations of the department including budgeting, staffing, scheduling, mentoring and supervision of the faculty and staff.
- Relationship Management: Building and developing relationships with multiple constituencies including faculty, administration, current and prospective students and their families, alumni, and the local and regional business communities.
In addition to these responsibilities, the Department Chair will serve as a member of the Farmer School’s Executive Committee and will report to the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.
Qualifications:
At a minimum, the applicant should have a Doctorate in Marketing or a related discipline with a distinguished and ongoing record of both teaching and research in Marketing that would merit appointment as a tenured full professor. Ideally, the applicant will also have demonstrated effectiveness in each of the three areas of responsibility discussed above.
Background:
The Farmer School of Business was recently named by Business Week among the top 25 undergraduate business programs in the United States and the seventh ranked among public institutions. The School has 140 full-time faculty members in seven departments, approximately 4,000 undergraduate students in 11 baccalaureate degree programs, and 80 graduate students in three master’s degree programs. The mission of the school is to be a premier business program that provides students with the life-long ability to seek and acquire knowledge and translate it into responsible action in a competitive global environment. Towards that end, the School endorses a commitment to liberal education along with the business-specific curriculum. The school has been accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) at the undergraduate level since 1932 and the graduate level since 1961.
